Increasing urbanization has raised several challenges to civic authorities and communities. Urban poverty is increasing with rural poor migrating to urban areas seeking better employment opportunities. APMAS is working with MEPMA to address issues of urban poverty by strengthening its institutional capacity building initiative and supporting facilities for providing water and sanitation in urban slums.
Besides providing its services to the rural self-help institutions, APMAS has expanded its coverage to the Urban Self-help Movement also. Thus, APMAS provides services to strengthen the SHG institutions in municipal towns of AP; namely LB Nagar, Uppal & Charminar of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Ongole, Srikakulam, Anantapur and Kadapa.
A much needed Water and Sanitation pilot program has been taken up in L.B.Nagar, Guntakal and Gudivada to improve the living standards of slums.
