Global Handwashing Day (GHD)

APMAS in partnership with Water.org has been implementing a WASH Project (water, sanitation & hygiene) in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana states. On the occasion of Global Handwashing Day (GHD), the team has conducted awareness campaigns in the operational locations. Self-Help Groups (SHG), the crucial platform was selected to disseminate the awareness on water, sanitation & hygiene. Year 2024 GHD theme “Why are clean hands still important?” was discussed with the SHG members and other Government counterparts from MEPMA & SERP. The campaigns were supported by handwashing demonstrations with soap at the event locations (Mandals & Towns). The two primary times to wash hands viz., before contact with food (preparing food, eating, feeding a child etc.,) and after contact with faeces (using the toilet or cleaning a child) were emphasized to the members who attended the campaigns. Further, it was suggested to ensure handwashing habit among their family members also to envisage better health of their entire family.
